چکیده

We present results of contemporary coastal sea level changes along the coasts Western Africa, obtained from a dedicated reprocessing satellite altimetry data done in context ESA ‘Climate Change Initiative’ project. High sampling rate (20 Hz) Jason-1 and Jason-2 missions over 14-year-long time span (July 2002 to June 2016) are considered. The were first retracked using ALES adaptative leading edge subwaveform retracker. X-TRACK processing system developed optimize completeness accuracy corrected series ocean areas was then applied. From 14-year long finally obtained, we estimate trends & 2 tracks covering study region. analyze regional variations trends, with focus on observed between open zone. Compared conventional 1 Hz products applications, 20 measurements used this allow us retrieve valid information much closer coast (less than 3–4 km coast, depending track location). main objective is twofold: (1) provide reprocessed (2) check whether at differ that reported products. In selected region, show period, near Africa significantly different offshore trends. order assess robustness results, detailed analyses performed several locations discriminate possible drifts geophysical corrections physical processes potentially able explain close coast.

Sea Level Changes Along Global Coasts from Satellite Altimetry, GPS and Tide Gauge

The average global sea level was rising through the 20th century as a result of global warming [8, 9, 26]. The Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) estimated that between 1901 and 2010, the mean sea level rate 1.7±0.2 mm/yr and increased to 3.2±0.4 mm/yr between 1993 and 2010, and projected that in 2100 the largest increase in global average sea level ...

Trends in Ostreopsis proliferation along the Northern Mediterranean coasts.

Harmful benthic microalgae blooms represent an emergent phenomenon in temperate zones, causing health, ecological and economic concern. The main goal of this work was to compile records of Ostreopsis at large temporal and spatial scales, in order to study the relationship between cell abundances, the periodicity and intensity of the blooms and the role of sea water temperature in 14 Spanish, Fr...

Sea level extremes at the coasts of China

Hourly sea level records from 1954 to 2012 at 20 tide gauges at and adjacent to the Chinese coasts are used to analyze extremes in sea level and in tidal residual. Tides and tropical cyclones determine the spatial distribution of sea level maxima. Tidal residual maxima are predominantly determined by tropical cyclones. The 50 year return level is found to be sensitive to the number of extreme e...

Increased nuisance flooding along the coasts of the United States due to sea level rise: Past and future

Mean sea level has risen tenfold in recent decades compared to the most recent millennia, posing a serious threat for population and assets in flood-prone coastal zones over the next century. An increase in the frequency of nuisance (minor) flooding has also been reported due to the reduced gap between high tidal datums and flood stage, and the rate of sea level rise (SLR) is expected to increa...
